Please join Chef Kathy Vega Hardy, owner of A Taste of the Philippines, at Schoolhouse for an evening of lumpia wrapping and experience a Kamayan feast! Tagalog for "by hand", Kamayan is a traditional Filipino form of eating.

Donuts with Dad!

Celebrate Father’s Day by making some delicious donuts with Dad!

Young chefs will love cooking along with dad in this special cooking class. First, we measure and make batter for our delicious vanilla cake donuts. Then we fill our donut trays. While donuts bake, we'll create colorful glazes (don't forget the sprinkles!).  Each team will make 6 donuts to decorate and take home in a cute bakery box. 

This is a fun + relaxed class. It's one of our students' favorites and we think that dads and their littles will bake up some sweet memories, too.

Taco Art Family Dinner

Families will work together to make a masa dough for corn tortillas and, using natural ingredients like turmeric and paprika, they will create various colors to create their tortilla art! The kids love the creativity. It's so. much fun and the tortillas are delicious! 

Families will also make two delicious homemade salsas for the tacos, too.

Blueberries for Sal is a classic that continues to be gobbled up by children, picky eaters, and parents everywhere. Inspired by the book, "Blueberries for Sal" by Robert McCloskey, we will make Blueberry Crumble!

Each caregiver/ child team will make the recipes together. You are welcome to take it home or you may stay to eat together.

We'll read the book while the crumble is in the oven.

Cook the Book: The Little Red Hen (Caregiver + Child)

When the Little Red Hen asks a cat, dog, and mouse for help planting some wheat, she gets no takers: "‘Not I!’ said the cat. ‘Not I!’ said the dog. ‘Not I!’ said the mouse." They won’t water, cut, or grind the wheat... or help bake a cake with it, either. So in the end, the Little Red Hen eats the cake all by herself as well!

Join us as we make mini funfetti cakes with buttercream frosting! While our cakes bake, we will read The Little Red Hen.

Inspired by the book, "Bread and Jam for Frances" by Russell Hoban and Lillian Hoban, we will make Homemade Berry Jam and a Mini Loaf of Wheat Sandwich Bread.

Berry Jam Buns (caregiver+child / family class)

In this class, you and your child will make a berry take on cinnamon rolls: an enriched yeasted dough, filled with berry preserves and berries. It's fun to roll up and slice, too!

Enjoy baking with your child and let us clean up the mess!

This is a TAKE AND BAKE class. We'll package your rolls for easy baking at home. They can also be frozen.

Family Dinner with a Firefighter!

Come cook with a firefighter! One of Jefferson Park's finest firefighters, Angel, will show us one of his favorite dishes he cooks for the firehouse. This is a great opportunity for kids (and the whole family) to meet a firefighter up close and personal and learn about what it's like to walk in a firefighter's boots.

The menu will include Angel's chicken chipotle bowls, salsa verde, chipotle salsa and churro donuts!

These cake pops are so fun to make!

Using cake, buttercream and melting chocolate, and a few other Leprechaun tricks, students will form their own cauldrons that are overflowing with gold and a rainbow!

Tavern Style Pizza with Billy Zureikat (ADULT BYOB)

Billy Z is a passionate home cook and baker from Chicago with a deep love for pizza and sandwiches. In 2021, he was diagnosed with Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy. After losing his ability to play basketball, he traded his jersey in for an apron and decided to use his culinary creations as a way to advocate and fundraise for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Fueled by my namesake pizza, “The Tripping Billy”, he's done over 50 collaborations with Chicago restaurants and bars, raising over $47,000 since November of 2021.

Come learn to make tavern style pizza and sample his famous Tripping Billy Pizza with pizza pro, Billy Zureikat. Billy is an ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association with an incredible story of how he became a skilled pizza artist.

This event is BYOB!

$50 per person/ a portion of the proceeds will go to MDA.

Who says you need a date for Valentine's day?! Celebrate Valentine's Day with Kit: A Bar Supply Store and Schoolhouse. 

Kit: will lead us in making two fun cocktails and we'll teach you to make mini molten chocolate lava cakes. Come with a date or come solo! This could also be a fun date with your friends. 

This class is BYOB. We have glassware, bottle openers and ice.

In this family cooking class, we'll learn about Filipino food culture by making some classic recipes taught by Chef Kathy Hardy Vega, owner of A Taste of the Philippines!

Adults will learn how to make the delicious dish, Coconut milk Chicken while kids chop up veggies for homemade Lumpia (egg rolls).

Adults and kids will come together to roll Lumpia and have dinner together!
